~ a place I call my own…

A Taste of Vietnam

I have never tried Vietnamese Cuisine before so when I got the invitation from Blogie to join the 6th leg of the Davao Food Trip at Hanoi Vietnamese Restaurant, I immediately accepted it. The food trip was set around 8pm and because I was “loitering” near the area, I was the first to arrive at the venue. (di halatang excited! hehe!) One of the security guards graciously ushered me inside the restaurant because I told them that it’s my first time and I don’t know where exactly to go. Medyo nalito lang ako because the place is divided into two halves which I later found out that Hanoi is on the left side and Tsuru is on the other side. But they actually share the same comfort room. How did I know? Because I checked it out myself. ;) Anyway, the rest of the food trippers arrived after 10 minutes and the feast started. :razz: These are the Vietnamese dishes Blogie picked from the menu:

cha-nuong.jpg
:: Cha Nuong ::
This is like a do-it-yourself Vietnamese version of Shawarma but has healthier ingredients mostly made up of veggies (lettuce, carrots, radish, basil), rice noodles, and grilled longganisa wrapped in a very thin rice paper with a special vinegar dip. I would highly recommend this to those who are watching their diet. One or two servings of Cha Nuong and you’re good to go.

pomelo-and-shrimp-salad.jpg
:: Goi Buoi (Pomelo and Shrimp Salad) ::
This one here is the most unique salad I have ever seen and tasted. I didn’t know that pomelo, shrimps and nuts can go so well together. You should really try this!

fried-spring-rolls.jpg
:: Cha Gio (Fried Spring Rolls) ::
There’s nothing fancy about their spring rolls. I prefer mine with mango and pork fillings. :razz:

beef-tenderloin-with-tomatoes.jpg
:: Bo Luc Lac (Beef Tenderloin with Tomatoes) ::
So far this is the best beef tenderloin in town I’ve eaten. Ang sarap talaga promise! :razz:

lapu-lapu-in-vermicelli-with-mushroom-vegetables.jpg
:: Lapu-Lapu in Vermicelli with Mushroom & Vegetables ::
Gosh… you should hear my tummy grumbling while looking at this scrumptious Lapu-Lapu. Another fave of mine.

garlic-crabs.jpg
:: Butter and Garlic Crabs ::
Saving the best for last! This is the reason why I only ate a spoonful of rice to make room for Sebastian. Hehe! Although I’m allergic to crustaceans but that didn’t stop me to indulge on these buttered garlicky crabs.

If you want to try these dishes, Hanoi offers buffet dinner every 8th of the month. They are conveniently located at J. Camus Street across the People’s Park. For reservations, you can call (082) 225-4501.
