~ a place I call my own…

Mesothelioma, a rare and deadly form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, has been an ordeal that my Dad’s friend had to undergo. This disease brought in lots of support from friends and families as he was a well loved man in our community. It was a real shock when it came first to our knowledge. According to him, he acquired it from a summer job he had worked for when he was still in the university. He had to work for part time in an insulation processing plant to be able to meet both ends. Needless to say, that summer stint he had caused him an unexplainable pain not only by him but by his loved ones as well. It was very difficult that everybody had to find ways to understand what was happening. Then one day, a book started to clear up some gray parts of Mesothelioma Cancer.

Surviving Mesothelioma and Other Cancers: A Patient’s Guide” is written by mesothelioma survivor Paul Kraus. Showcasing a moving story about a person struggling to survive Mesothelioma, this book is for anybody who wants to understand the disease. It’s packed with hope and encouragement and some practical suggestions that will benefit not only the cancer survivors but the surrounding loved ones and health professionals as well.

Spread the Light

When you’re single, dating can become discouraging and disappointing. You can spend night after night perusing the clubs with friends or going on blind dates that end awkwardly. This can make a person want to give up finding “the one.” When traditional means of finding your perfect match have failed, consider online dating for a change of pace and scenery. There are several benefits online dating has over trudging through clubs and blind dates.

If you’re looking for love that can last a lifetime, it’s better to fall for someone for who they are, rather than how hot they are. Attraction is important, but for lasting love, it’s not the most important factor. Real love comes from loving a person’s inner attractiveness, as well as the outer. Usually online dating allows people to really get to know one another before meeting. You can find out what you have in common, like whether you both believe in the benefits of Chinese medicine. Online dating allows you to relax and enjoy searching for your future mate without feeling pressured. You’re more likely to learn what you’re really looking for when the pressure is off. If you find that a certain someone isn’t right, you can back out easily without feeling the embarrassment you would during a face-to-face encounter.

When you find someone that interests you, getting to know him can take as long as you’d like. Over time, you’ll learn who that person really is, her values, feelings, thoughts, hopes, and dreams. People are more likely to open up and be themselves when dating online. Fear and embarrassment disappear, allowing for genuine conversations. Once you know someone and you’re ready to meet, your first date will be wonderful—much like visiting with an old friend. You’ll be comfortable, relaxed, and able to enjoy one another, hopefully for a lifetime.

There is nothing I find more entertaining than sitting down in my recliner and watching The Golden Girls on directtv. The show is full of humor and has some very good characters. Rose, Blanche, Sophia and Dorthy are guaranteed to bring you plenty of laughs.

The shot is about a group of older women who come together in the city of Miami. Blanche owns the house they live in and Rose, Dorthy and Sophia are her tenants and friends. Rose is the naive lady out of the bunch. Sophia is the wise-cracking mother of Dorthy. Dorthy is the straight-shooter out of the group. Blanche loves to chase men and is known for her fast ways with the opposite sex.

The characters work together perfectly. The timing of the jokes are perfect and they are delivered well by great actresses. The running gag jokes seem to never get old. Whether they are making fun of Dorthy and her inability to get dates, or the fact that Blanche has too many dates, it’s all funny.

Actress Betty White, who plays Rose in The Golden Girls, has rejuvenated her career of late. But it is worth checking her out on The Golden Girls reruns.

Been Thinking…

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what my grandma told us. She wants us to keep the family business running even when she’s long gone in this world. But I’m not really sure what exactly I can contribute. Although I have a good taste when it comes to jewelry design but I don’t really have any talent or skill when it comes to jewelry making. Perhaps I can help with the paper works and inventory. I can help keep track with the sales and expenses and make sure we have enough gold to create new jewelry pieces. I can also be tasked to buy gold bullion as added asset.

Shopping for Furniture

Just got off the phone! My friend needs my “artistic” opinion so she’s dropping by here later so we can go together at the furniture store in Murray. She’s buying a new set of rustic furniture for her newly renovated home but she wants me to see it first before making the purchase. She said she trusts my taste. Well, I’m really flattered. I wasn’t even aware that I have a taste for nice furniture. LOL! Oh well, I better do a good job then. ;)

Happy Pioneer Day Utah!

Today, the people of Utah commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847, where the Latter-day Saints settled after being forced from Nauvoo, Illinois and other locations in the eastern United States. Parades, fireworks, rodeos, and other festivities help commemorate the event.

In addition to being an official holiday in Utah, Pioneer Day is considered a special occasion by many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). On Pioneer Day, some Latter-day Saints walk portions of the Mormon Trail or reenact entering the Salt Lake Valley by handcart. Latter-day Saints throughout the United States and around the world may celebrate July 24 in remembrance of the LDS Churches’ pioneer era, with songs, dances, and pioneer related activities.

So sad we missed the parade this morning. But we’re definitely not missing the fireworks display at Liberty Park tonight. For those in Ogden, you don’t have to go too far because there will also be a nighttime fireworks show following the Pioneer Days Rodeo from Pioneer Stadium.

Keeping the Legacy Alive

As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, my grandma wants us to continue the family’s jewelry making business. She actually called for a family meeting last month and made everyone promise to do everything we can to keep the business running. It has been with the family for so long and she doesn’t want to let it go even when she’s long gone in this world.

Well, we understand why our dearest grandma had to do that. She’s getting older and all she wants is to die peacefully knowing that we will take care of the business our great grandparents started. And we’ve witnessed how she worked really hard to keep the business afloat despite all the problems it encountered all through the years. That is why we intend to keep that promise no matter what. We will keep the legacy alive and we will continue buying gold coins and bars to create art through jewelry making.

I’m reviving the Memes I started on this blog. Starting next week, I will be posting new sets of Random Questions so watch out for it. Questions will be posted on Wednesdays and you will have the entire week to answer it. As for the The Tag Train, well, it’s still undergoing major repair after derailment but it will be ready hopefully before the month ends so just stay tuned.
